Description
Antopral 40 mg contains pantoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor that reduces the production of stomach acid. It is used to treat duodenal and stomach ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is also used in combination therapy to eradicate Helicobacter pylori.
Composition:
Each gastro-resistant tablet contains 40 mg of pantoprazole.
Excipients: calcium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, hyprolose, sodium carbonate, anhydrous silicon, anhydrous collodion.
Properties:
Pantoprazole has antibacterial activity against Helicobacter pylori and enhances the anti-Helicobacter effect of other drugs. Its effect after a single dose begins quickly and lasts for 24 hours, giving rapid relief of symptoms and healing of duodenal ulcers. At a 40 mg dose, the gastric pH stays above 3 for more than 19 hours.
In studies, complete healing of duodenal ulcers was seen in 89% of patients after 2 weeks, and complete healing of gastric ulcers in 88% after 4 weeks at 40 mg. Complete remission of gastroesophageal reflux disease (stage II-III) was seen in 82% of patients after 4 weeks and 92% after 8 weeks at 40 mg daily.
Indications:
- Peptic ulcer of the duodenum or stomach in the acute phase, including ulcers associated with NSAID use or refractory to histamine H2 receptor blockers
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (moderate and severe forms)
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
- Combined anti-Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy in patients with peptic ulcer, to reduce the frequency of relapses
