Epicogel suspension

Epicogel is an antacid and antiflatulent oral suspension made by Eipico in Egypt. It neutralizes stomach acid and eases heartburn, indigestion and bloating (flatulence).

Composition:

Each 5 ml of suspension contains:

• aluminium hydroxide 405 mg
• magnesium hydroxide 100 mg
• dimethicone 125 mg

Properties:

An antacid preparation, a balanced combination of algeldrate (aluminium hydroxide) and magnesium hydroxide.

It neutralizes free hydrochloric acid in the stomach and reduces pepsin activity, which lowers the digestive activity of the gastric juice. It is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.

It has a coating and adsorbing effect and protects the gastric mucosa by stimulating prostaglandin synthesis (cytoprotective effect), including against damage from ethanol, NSAIDs (for example indomethacin, diclofenac, acetylsalicylic acid) and corticosteroids.

The therapeutic effect starts after 3-5 minutes.

Dimethicone is an antiflatulent: it reduces the surface tension of gas bubbles in the intestine so that they break up. The released gases are partly absorbed by the intestinal wall and expelled by peristalsis.

Indications:

• dyspepsia
• flatulence (bloating)
• heartburn
• gastritis and peptic ulcer

Storage:

Store at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.

Carton box containing one 180 ml bottle.
